Why should you seek registration or compliance?
| A study by the National Institute of Standards and Technology(NIST) shows that between 1985 and 1995, Malcolm Baldrige Award Winners out-performed the S&P 500 index by a margin of three to one. AS/ISO/QS 9000 Registration certainly can't promise these kinds of numbers, but it will provide a solid framework for achieving continuous improvement. |
| Let me ask you this: What is the
difference between the San Francisco Forty Niners and the rest of the NFL? Do you think
they have a good system ? Of course they do! Since 1980, the Forty Niners have been the
most successful team in the NFL. They've been using nearly the same system for almost
twenty years. They have not always had the same coach, quarterback and supporting cast yet
they continue to thrive with their system. Granted they've had some great players, but it
was the system they used that brought out that greatness. It's not just the west coast offense that makes their system great. Just like any corporation, their system is made up of sub-systems. I'm going to list out a few clauses from the ISO Standard and give some examples of how these relate to the Forty Niners System: 4.1 Management Responsibility-
As an organization, from the top down, the Forty Niners are committed to winning. This
would be reflected in their policy statement. Resources- Do you think the Niners provide adequate resources for personnel and facilities ? Management Representative - This would be the Niners coach. Do you think he has been given the responsibility and authority for ensuring that the Niner's System is followed ? Management Review - Do you think that during the year, the Niner's Top Management gets together and reviews their whole system including: personnel, documented procedures, facilities and resource requirements for the near and long time future? 4.5 Document Control and Data Control - Do you think the Forty Niners have a documented play book? How about a master list of who has copies of the play book? Do you think this ever happens: "Oh sorry Jerry, we forgot to tell you that we changed that play". Would the Niners throw a play book away when it was obsolete or would they shred it? 4.18 Training - Do you think that the Forty Niners might do some training ? Maybe watch some film once in awhile? Do they ever let the center play quarterback because the QB called in sick? Would they have cross-training between guards and tackles? These are just a few examples of how an ISO 9000 System correlates to an NFL team. |
